About the project

"This is a huge project
to open up the Williamson's
fascinating collection
of artworks and artefacts
to everyone."

- Colin Simpson, Principal Museums Officer

For years, the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum has been working towards the organisation its collection online and in store.

Big changes have been made, such as the gallery's extensive collection of framed works being uploaded to ArtUK.

However due to insufficient funding, a complete record of every item in the museums collection on to a computer database, along with a complete rationalisation of the museum's store, was not possible.

Now, with the support of funding, it is possible and the three-year project has begun!

Meet the team

Documentation Officer

As project lead, it is my job to set plans and targets and ensure the project runs smoothly. With a background in archaeology and art history, I am so excited to discover all the treasures the Williamson has in its stores and to share them with you.

Documentation Assistant

My role is to populate our new computer database with entries for every item in the collection. Data entry is part of my skillset and is essential for navigating our database program and imputing tens of thousands of entries within the project timeframe.

Documentation Volunteers

Our fantastic volunteers give some time each week to record the details of every item in our collection. All come from a variety of backgrounds and so all bring different points of knowledge and perspective to our project and collection.
